We often get asked what is the best streaming device for cord cutting. The truth is there is no one device that is perfect for all, but there does seem to be some that are more popular than others. So, we asked our readers what is the best streaming device for cord cutting. (Not to be confused with the best new device that we already covered. This award is for the best overall streaming device.)

According to our readers, the best streaming player/TV of 2018 are Roku Players and Roku TVs with 56.3% of the vote. Roku beat out the Fire TV at 21.2% and the Apple TV at 13.5%. (Note: This includes all versions of each device.)

Rounding out the list is Android TV at 5.6% and the Chromecast at 1.7%. The other 7.3% was made up of a long list of streaming devices: TiVo DVRs, XBOX, Smart TVs, and PlayStation were all included but none of them received more than 1% of the vote.

What is interesting here is that while over 70% of our readers said they owned and used a Roku, only 56.3% of our readers listed it as the best device. Once again, these numbers show how many of our readers own more than one streaming player. We often hear how the device in the living room is different from the one in the bedroom, for example.

It will be interesting to see what happens next year. Roku and Amazon have been fighting hard for market share and Apple is rumored to be working on a cheaper version of their Apple TV. 2019 seems to be shaping up into a battle between Roku and Amazon in the world of streaming as we wait to see what Apple does next.
