Root Sports is Being Re-Branded as AT&T SportsNet

AT&T the new owners of Root Sports is rebranded the channel. Maybe to the surprise of no one the new name is AT&T SportsNet. This change will take effect on July 14th 2017.

“We have always brought an authentic and personal level of coverage to all of our teams, because as fans, we also know the history and feel the rivalries,” said Bill Roberts, head of content for AT&T Sports Networks, in a statement. “And while we have that same undying commitment to quality, this re-brand will help us heighten the experience as we transform our visual effects capabilities further.”

The question now is will AT&T take this opertunity to bring the channel to DIRECTV NOW. We do know that Roots Sports will be on a live TV streaming service before the start of the 2017 NBA season thanks to recent reports. It was reported that Roots Sports will be on a live TV streaming service before the next NBA season starts this fall. According to the report Utah Jazz games that are aired on Roots Sports will be available through a live TV streaming service like DIRECTV NOW this fall.

Roots Sports Networks Include:

  • Root Sports Northwest
  • Root Sports Pittsburgh
  • Root Sports Rocky Mountain
  • Root Sports Southwest
  • Root Sports Utah.

The Root Sports Network first launched back on April 1st 2011 and is headquartered in San Francisco, California. Formally Root Sports Networks was a Fox Sports Regional Networks affiliate. That all changed back on December when DIRECTV became part owner and changed the branding from FSN to Roots Sports.

For now we will have to  wait and see what service picks up Roots Sports but according to reports it is a done deal.

Hopefully this will be a good deal for DTVN users and I wonder what package they will add AT&T SportsNet? I assuming this will be something like PS Vue offers Fox College Sports regions Atlantic, Central and Pacific.
