Stranger ThingsSelling stolen Netflix accounts is not a new story. People have been stealing logins for Netflix accounts and selling them for as little as a $1 for years. A quick search on YouTube turned up thousands of videos promoting the sale of stolen Netflix accounts.

Even at just $1 per account someone can easily sell 100,000 accounts and make an easy living. So the question is how can you protect yourself from having your account stolen.

Often sellers of these accounts will tell the buyers not to save any shows, add a profile, or change the password to hide their activity.

There are two ways people get their accounts stolen. First they use the same username and password on many different website accounts. Recently Yahoo was hacked, and it resulted it a lot of new Netflix accounts on the market. What likely has happened is people had the same password and email for both. So make sure to never use the same password for multiple services. (Especially not on important accounts such as bank accounts.)

The second way they get you is with fake apps or sites. Make sure to be careful to only use official Netflix apps and websites. Make sure to always be careful what site you are on before you enter your username and password.

Wondering if you have been hacked?

Log in on the Netflix website and go to your My Account. Select View Activity and see if you notice a lot of movies or shows you are not watching. If you see that go change your password!

Hopefully this will help protect your account.
