Today Simple.TV emailed their current users a short message informing them that their DVR will soon stop working.

Here is that message:

Unfortunately, we are unable to move the company forward or continue to operate the services required to keep our systems online. This means that you will no longer be able to record or play content using your Simple.TV device.

When we launched Simple.TV in 2012, we saw it as a way to bring broadcast TV seamlessly to connected screens. The term “cord cutter” hadn’t been coined yet, but we (all of us) were part of the vanguard, looking for an alternative to the expensive, and limited, options available to us. Today, I’m happy to say, broadcast TV is starting to arriving on streaming devices through a new wave of over-the-top services and hardware DVRs have implemented great features to deliver your favorite streaming services to your TV.

For those of you who love the flexibility of recording all of your over-the-air content to your own device, we highly recommend the TiVo Roamio OTA DVR. With 4 tuners and 1TB of storage, it’s a great upgrade from your current Simple.TV. Further, we’ve partnered with TiVo to extend a special discount to those who would like to replace their Simple.TV. This offer is good through July 31st, while supplies last.

Simple TV describes themselves as:

Simple.TV is your own private TV server, recording and dishing up great live HDTV to up to 5 of your friends and family at the same time – no matter where they are*.

Simple.TV is a lovely little box that sits on your home network, connects to an aerial antenna (or ClearQAM cable), and streams TV to your devices, plus records to storage that you attach.

If you are a Simple.TV user check your email box for a special promo code to upgrade to a TiVO DVR.
