Sling TV Adds DVR Support to The Apple TV

Today, Sling TV rolled out their Cloud DVR “First Look” program to The Apple TV. This means that Sling TV subscribers who own a Apple TV streaming player, Fire TV, Roku TV, Android TV or Android mobile device can now add Cloud DVR to their subscription at $5 per month for 50 hours of Cloud DVR storage.

When first announced  Cloud DVR “First Look” a few weeks ago it was exclusively available for purchase to customers with an Amazon device.

Here are some features currently available on Cloud DVR:

  • Watch anytime, anywhere – Record your favorites and watch whenever you want across all Amazon Fire TVs and Fire tablets, Android mobile devices, Apple TV, Android TVs, Roku streaming players and Roku TVs.
  • Conflict-free recording – Record multiple programs simultaneously, and forget about recording conflicts.
  • Keep recordings as long as you want – With Sling TV, your recordings won’t expire as long as you remain a Sling TV subscriber with Cloud DVR.
  • Auto-managed recordings – Sling TV will make room for new recordings by deleting your old recordings as you reach capacity, starting with your oldest ‘watched’ recording, so you can binge on your new favorite show.

You can add Sling TV’s Cloud DVR to your account in your account settings.

It doesn’t even work on most channels. Not even basic stuff like FX and Disney networks. It’s too expensive for a very tiny value. Not worth it.

Sling TV DVR is a joke. Can not watch a show being recorded from the beginning while recording. When recording a show let’s say on a channel like A&E you can not rewind or pause recording. Also there is no buffer again when a show is being recorded.
Super basic DVR, more like a VCR, which should be free not $60/yr!

I’m glad I got it free from being a beta tester and not paying for it, because the DVR has been trash. I constantly have shows which I have set to record as a series not record anything, and even worse, sometimes the DVR section doesn’t even show up. I’ve tried it on Android, Roku, PC and Fire TV and it has happened on all of the devices. I would have taken the DVR option off if I was paying $5/month. I’m liking DirecTV Now more with the $35 introductury price, and it should be a lot better when they get DVR (hopefully not with extra charges). I really want to keep Sling because I still just pay $20 for the multistream beta testing with DVR beta 100 hours, but I might just cancel that if it continues like this.
