Sling TV Strikes Deal to Add Viacom Channels

SlingSling TV is about to add a ton of new channels after they agreed to a new deal with Viacom. Great Viacom Channels like MTV, Nick, Nick Junior, Spike and more will be added in the coming months.

“We appreciate Viacom’s willingness to continue with us on our journey as we work to deliver the best, most innovative television services available,” said Charlie Ergen, DISH chairman and CEO. “This creative, bold and consumer-friendly approach extends a nearly 20-year-old relationship.”

“Today’s agreement ensures Viacom’s number one family of networks will continue to be available to our millions of fans on DISH and underscores the value of our programming across platforms,” said Viacom Executive Chairman, President, and CEO Philippe Dauman. “DISH has historically been and remains an important partner for Viacom, and as part of our commitment to entertain audiences wherever they are, we are pleased to offer select Viacom networks as part of DISH’s Sling TV product. Today’s renewal, together with several additional affiliate agreements announced over the past year, will enable Viacom to drive growth and deliver better, more engaging viewer experiences for years to come.”

Viacom networks, including Comedy Central, BET, Spike, MTV, Nick Jr. and many others, will be available on Sling TV’s single-stream and multi-stream services in coming months. Specific packaging details were not announced.

And so begins the morphing of cable TV into internet cable TV. This will attempt to shift everyone off of cable TV to streaming internet cable TV and will end up, over time, costing the same. The TV content companies aren’t stupid. SLING will become the cable TV of tomorrow. You will either subscribe to cable TV or internet cable TV. Content providers like VIACOM will slowly kill off the Netflixes and Hulus of tomorrow by licensing their content to internet cable TV services like SLING exclusively.

SLING will end up costing close to what everyone is paying for good ole cable TV. By the time you add all of the streaming services, and absorb the imminent internet service increases, “cord cutting” may end up costing someone more than subscribing to cable or satellite TV.

In the end, cable TV wins.

I don’t watch these channels, but this is good news for those who do. I’m sure they will keep the base package at $20.

They have to create channel packages for different type of customers as the base $20 value. like you like sports mostly ok! $20 base and the rest $5 extras. etc etc.. Dont bundle a bunch of channels we dont watch because that is the reason we left cable!! & if you raise the value price I’M GONE!!!

It’s cool, but then again the 20 dollar package is right where we want to be at with History etc being on there.
