Watching tv and using remote control

With recent price increases and channel changeups, many cord cutters are taking time to look into the other options that are available. So, today we’re going to compare the two.

For a fair comparison, we’re going to focus on the Sling Orange + Sling Blue combo and the PlayStation Vue Access plan, which are similar in number of channels and in price point.

Plans and Pricing

For a limited time, Sling is offering a deal on Sling Orange, Sling Blue, and the combo of the two. You can subscribe to either Orange or Blue for $15 each, or you can get the combination of Sling Blue and Sling Orange for $25/month. After the deal, the combo will go back to the regular price of $40.

Last summer, PlayStation Vue announced a $5 price hike while they brought more channels to their lineup. PlayStation Vue has a few different plan options to choose from. These are your options when you sign up:

  • Access $44.99/month
  • Core $49.99/month
  • Elite $59.99/month
  • Ultra $79.99/month

PlayStation Vue offers a 5 day free trial on each package, except for Ultra.

Channel and Price Comparison

One way to look at the value you’re getting from your streaming service is to compare how many channels you get for your money.

With Sling Orange + Sling Blue, you’ll get 56 channels for $25 (with the limited time deal), coming in at 45 cents per channel. When the limited time offer ends, you’ll get 56 channels for $40, bringing it up to 71 cents per channel.

PlayStation Vue Access has 49 channels for $44.99, coming in at 92 cents per channel.

Keep in mind that live streaming services will offer different local channels depending on your area, so the number of channels you get might vary slightly.

Channels

Comparing price per channel is a good way to look at the value of each streaming service, but that information isn’t important if you aren’t getting the channels you love to watch. Below, we’re listing all of the channels you’ll get with both Sling Orange + Blue and PlayStation Vue.

Again, keep in mind that channels will vary slightly based on your location, so local channels will depend on where you live.

Simultaneous Viewing

With the combination of Sling Blue and Sling Orange, you can watch 4 streams simultaneously. However, you can only have 1 Sling Orange stream and up to 3 Sling Blue streams on at the same time.

Cloud DVR

To get Cloud DVR with Sling TV, you’ll need to add on the Cloud DVR Extra for $5/month. With that extra, you’ll be able to record and watch live TV, fast forward through commercials, keep your recordings for as long as you’re a customer, and record multiple shows at once. With the add on, your monthly cost (after the limited time offer) will be $45/month.

Your PlayStation Vue Access subscription comes with “unlimited” Cloud DVR storage that will allow you to record up to 500 programs. Your content will be saved for 28 days. After recording, you can watch at home or on the go. You can fast forward through recorded content on all channels except Fox, FX, and FXX.
