Chromecast

Sorry No New Chromecast Today…

Update: Nevermind Google just announced the 3rd gen Chromecast. (Not during the event but on their site.) You can learn more about it HERE.

For weeks now Best Buy has been selling a new Google Chromecast. We have even seen them at our local Best Buy. It was expected that today at Google’s event announcing a new Chromecast would join the new Pixel 3 and other devices. Sadly though Google did not announce the new Chromecast.

With it already being in Best Buy stores for at least a week now the announcement should come soon as the Christmas buying season is fast approaching.

So what do we know about the new 3rd Gen Chromecast? Here is everything we know:

There was an FCC filing back in August that let us know a new 3rd gen Chromecast was in the works. So far as best we can tell it will sell for the same $35 price and the only physical difference is a matte black finish instead of a shiny black finish.

According to the filing, the updated version of the second-gen Chromecast will add 5GHz Wi-Fi and standard Bluetooth 2.4GHz. Currently, the Chromecast second gen uses a low power version of the Bluetooth 2.4GHz standard. This new standard powered 2.4GHz Bluetooth is a higher powered version that will let you connect keyboards or even a possible remote to the Chromecast. The update also adds the newer, more powerful 5GHz Wi-Fi antenna that will allow for faster, smoother streaming.

For now, we will have to wait and see when Google announces the new Chromecast.
