Have you been thinking about testing out Spectrum’s à la carte TV service but the lack of a good DVR was holding you back? Good news! You can now use Spectrum TV Choice, their à la carte TV service, with a cable card which will enable you to use a TiVo or HDHomeRun as your DVR.
This was confirmed by Jared Newman on his Twitter account:
So this is interesting. Got a tip from a reader and just confirmed with customer support Spectrum TV Choice works with CableCARD. That means you could use an HDHomeRun Prime or TiVo and avoid Spectrum’s clunky/pricey DVR boxes. That certainly changes the equation. https://t.co/OGlxVPPynA

Update: One catch is you would lose access to the on-demand content offered by Spectrum TV Choice.
The Spectrum TV Choice package offers your locals including PBS and 25 music channels. From there you can pick 10 additional channels from a long list of channels including AMC, Cartoon Network, Comedy Central, ESPN, FOX News, Hallmark Channel, NFL Network, and The Weather Channel.
You can even add premium networks like HBO, Showtime, and STARZ for an extra fee.
There is no box fee. You can stream your content through their Roku Channel. If you want a DVR, you will have to pay to rent a DVR box.
The service costs $21.99 plus a broadcast TV fee for the first 24 months. (No contract to cancel anytime.) You will need Spectrum’s Internet service to get the à la carte TV package.
As far as we can tell, this is as close as we have ever come to a true à la carte TV package.
