Spectrum Makes it Harder to Cancel Home Internet

Spectrum this month started to notify customers that they are changing their cancellation policy for internet customers. In the past if you canceled mid-month and did not have a contract you could get a refund for the rest of the month you did not use. This comes from Stop the Cap who spotted that Spectrum is no longer offering pro rata (aka prorated) credits for unused services when you canceled.

This means if you cancel in the first week of your new bill Spectrum gets to keep your full payment even if you only used a few days.

Here is the notice being sent to Spectrum internet customers:

“Effective on or after June 23, 2019 and consistent with the Terms and Conditions of Service, Spectrum will no longer provide a pro rata credit for services sold on a monthly basis that are cancelled prior to the end of the current billing month,” the notice to customers says.

Spectrum is not alone in doing this as Cablevision/Optimum was one of the first. Others like Windstream and wireless operators have also moved to this no refund policy if you cancel.

So if you plan to cancel Spectrum home internet make sure you do so right before, not right after, your next bill starting in June 2019.
