Back in February, it was reported that Spectrum planned to raise its broadcast TV fee to $11.99. Now Stop The Cap has confirmed that Spectrum cable has raised its broadcast from $9.95 to $11.99 a month. This price hike comes as Spectrum just raised its broadcast TV fee back in November from $8.85 to $9.95 a month.

With this new price hike over the last year, Spectrum has raised its broadcast TV fee $3.14 a more than 20% jump in the fee cable TV customers pay for content that is free over the air.

“Spectrum’s latest fee increase is particularly outrageous, as Spectrum customers just saw their monthly fees — including this same broadcast TV fee — increase in November. Customers are fleeing pay-TV companies in record numbers, in part due to ever-increasing bills riddled with confusing, mandatory fees buried in the fine print. But rather than change their ways, cable industry giants like Spectrum continue to use their near-monopoly grips to extract more money from their existing customers to pad their profits.” Said Jonathan Schwantes, senior policy counsel for Consumer Reports.

This comes as it is reported that Spectrum is spending less on cable TV. Charter recently announced that they plan to spend just $7 billion on its cable TV services vs the $8.9 billion it spent in 2018. Sadly for the customers, the savings are not being pasted on as Spectrum is charging TV customers more in 2019 than it did in 2018.
