Fubo: Everything to Know About Sports on Fubo

While many streaming services focus on every aspect of entertainment, Fubo has taken a different path. Initially, the service — which launched in 2015 — was centered on soccer. But now, Fubo’s soccer focus has been replaced with an equal love of all sports, whether you’re into basketball, football, or a more niche activity. Fubo is so sports-focused that it broadcasts over 30,000 live events a year. Some are even shown in 4K — a rare sight in the sports streaming world. Longing to find out everything you need to know about Fubo’s sports coverage? You’ve come to the right place. (For information about the entire fuboTV platform, check out our full review.)

Fubo Sports Streaming Highlights

Regional Sports Networks

Like DIRECTV STREAM, Fubo carries many Regional Sports Networks including Bally Sports RSNs, AT&T SportsNet, NBC Sports RSN, ROOT Sports Northwest, MSG, Marquee Sports Network, SNY, and NESN.

Fubo charges a Regional Sports Fee which is based on the number of Regional Sports Networks (RSNs) that are received in your area based on your zip code. The fee is not optional for those who live in an RSN market and it ranges from $10.99 to $14.00 per month, depending on how many RSNs you receive.

Stream games in 4K

Fubo sports focus already sets it apart from other streaming services. But the platform also went one step further, building its own technology to avoid major event outages and stream in 4K. In fact, Fubo is one of the only streaming companies to offer 4K live TV broadcasts. In the past, the Super Bowl has been shown in ultra high definition (UHD), providing such a clear picture you’ll feel like you’re sitting right there in the stadium. Not all of Fubo’s sporting events are available to watch in 4K, but, with any luck, the list will grow bigger with time.

Never miss the start of a game

One of your biggest pet peeves is likely missing the beginning of a game or event. With Fubo, you don’t have to miss the first few minutes ever again. Its Startover feature allows you to restart live broadcasts from the start, so you don’t have to panic if you’re out and about or in the middle of an important task when kickoff begins. Right now, Startover is only available on select devices, including Apple TVs, Android and iOS phones and tablets, and Roku players. It’s also only being tested on certain channels. But expect a full rollout in the future.

Rewind 72 hours

Fubo’s Lookback feature allows you to go back throughout the previous 72 hours to catch up on any games, highlights, or analysis shows that you may have missed. Again, this isn’t a feature that’s supported by every channel in Fubo’s live schedule. But it’s ideal for busy days where you don’t have time to switch on the TV or times when you’ve forgotten to hit record.

Fubo Sports Streaming Limitations

Limited DVR storage

While Fubo’s 1000 hours of included DVR is generous, it isn’t quite on the same level as YouTube TV’s unlimited DVR.

Missing major channels

For being a sports focused streaming service, Fubo is noticeably missing some major channels. TBS and TNT are also not available on the live TV streaming service which affects coverage of NBA and NHL games.

Pricy add-ons

As well as having to pay for extra DVR storage and simultaneous streams, fuboTV has a wide variety of add-on packages. Of course, these all come with separate monthly costs, meaning your bill could quickly rack up if you’re not careful. The SportsPlus package, for example, gives you 24 channels, including NFL RedZone, for $10.99/mo. NBA League Pass also comes with an additional monthly fee.

The Final Cut: How is Fubo for Live Sports Streaming?

If you’re sports-obsessed, Fubo should be at the top of your list. From baseball to wrestling, it has a huge variety of live sports content to watch. Plus, the service has plenty of features that make it stand out from the crowd, including the ability to stream games in 4K and the opportunity to restart and rewind live events. And although it’s missing a few big-name networks, Fubo’s sports channel list is pretty hard to compete with.

If you can’t live without the likes of TBS and TNT, you don’t have to say goodbye to a Fubo subscription. Why not try using an antenna to broadcast free local channels over the air? You can also try any Fubo package for free for a week — minus the Fubo Latino plan, which has no free trial.
