‘Squid Game’ Reaches 111 Million Viewers, Making it Netflix’s Biggest Series Ever

Love it, hate it, or haven’t seen it yet, Netflix’s Korean thriller drama Squid Game is all the internet can talk about these days. Now Netflix’s latest tweet confirms the series has reached 111 million viewers, cementing it as the streamer’s biggest launch ever.

Squid Game‘s 111 million viewers surpasses the previous record held by Bridgerton which reached 82 million at launch last Christmas. It’s also more than other popular titles on Netflix including The Witcher (76 million) and Sex Education (40 million).

Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos predicted Squid Game would reach massive popularity, even going so far as predicting it as the streamer’s biggest series.

Squid Game will definitely be our biggest non-English language show in the world, for sure, and there’s a very good chance it’s going to be our biggest show ever,” Sarandos said at launch.

Squid Game’s premise centers around a group of people facing crippling debt who are given the chance to start over by playing a few simple childhood playground games, but with high stakes. Winners will receive billions of dollars in prize money, but it will cost losers their life.

The series has nine episodes with no word on whether a Season 2 is in the cards.
