Starz Is Coming to YouTube TV

Teenager girl with remote control laying down and watching tv eating popcorn.Lionsgate, the parent company behind Starz, announced yesterday that they are coming to Amazon Prime in the United Kingdom and Germany. They also announced that they will launch on YouTube TV in June in the US.

“In spite of disruption in the traditional MVPD universe, the success of our Starz OTT offerings allowed us to grow overall Media Networks segment revenue by 5% last year, and we anticipate growth again this year,” said Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer during a call with investors yesterday.

Now just take this with a grain of salt. The Weather Channel also recently announced that they will be launching Local Now on YouTube TV, but it has been a few months since the announcement. So even if Starz does not come to YouTube TV in June it still should happen soon.

Pricing for Starz on YouTube TV has not yet been announced. We expect it to be consistent with other services that offer Starz, but it is always possible YouTube TV could try to offer a special deal similar to how DIRECTV NOW offers HBO for just $5. AT&T does this in an effort to attract subscribers, and it is possible YouTube TV will do the same.
