Male hand holding TV remote control. As cord cutting grows so does streaming, and now we get a look at just how fast it is growing thanks to a new study from Conviva.

According to the new study, in just one year the number of hours streamed online jumped 115%. The number of times someone played a stream also went up 102%, and the number of peak concurrent plays streaming online went up 118%.

“These spikes demonstrate that sports continue to drive “appointment TV”—even in the streaming TV space. This has significant implications for the leagues, publishers, and advertisers—all of which should expect to derive incremental value from these types of events as they grow over time. Of course, these events also create massive loads on the video delivery ecosystem, which must continue to improve in order to meet growing demand,” Conviva said in a statement sent to Cord Cutters News.

If you have wondered why some streaming services have struggled to keep up, a jump of over 100% in one year likely was part of the issue. Growth of 100% means you need 100% growth in your servers and bandwidth.

For now, streaming services seem to be struggling just to keep up with the growth.
