Nominations for the 78th Golden Globe Awards are in, and as you’d expect, a lot of content from streaming services are up for awards. After a year like 2020, it’s no wonder there seems to be more SVOD content than ever before, and the quality just keeps getting higher.
Notable nominations coming from streamers include Netflix’s Mank, The Trial of The Chicago 7, The Prom, Over the Moon, Emily in Paris, The Queen’s Gambit, The Crown, Ozark, and more. Netflix has certainly made a name for itself when it comes to releasing high-quality films and shows. In fact, it leads every category with the most Golden Globe nominations for 2021.
Aside from Netflix, Amazon Studios has nominations for releases like Borat Subsequent Moviefilm and Small Axe, while Hulu has Palm Springs, The Great, Normal People, and more up for awards.
Disney+’s animated films Onward and Soul made the list of contenders, as did The Mandalorian and Hamilton, both of which were pretty much expected.
In the category for Nominations by Motion Picture Distributor, Netflix leads the pack with an astounding 22 nominations. Amazon Studios is the runner up but pales in comparison with just 7. As for Nominations by Television Distributor, Netflix again dominates the crowd with 20 nominations. HBO Max is in second place with 7, followed by Hulu with 6.
The 78th Golden Globes will take place on February 28, coast to coast from 5 pm to 8 pm PT/8-11 ET on NBC. The event will be hosted remotely by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
