This week T-Mobile filed a new FCC document pushing for their merger with Sprint, and it included new details about their 5G home internet plans.
According to T-Mobile, they plan to bring 5G Home Internet to 90% of Americans. To do this T-Mobile says they need to merge with Sprint.
“What T-Mobile has done for mobile wireless consumers, New T-Mobile will do for in-home broadband consumers. The combined company will be relentless in removing customer pain points and changing the things people hate about their in-home broadband service,” T-Mobile said in its FCC filing.
T-Mobile clearly is aiming at going head to head with the big cable companies like Comcast and Spectrum. T-Mobile seems to be hoping that effort to take on home Internet providers will help the FCC approve the T-Mobile Sprint merger.
We’ll give millions of Americans—especially those in underserved rural areas—more choices and options for connecting to the Internet and participating in the digital economy,” John Legere wrote. “With the New T-Mobile and our unique 5G capabilities, we’ll be able to offer a fast and reliable alternative for in-home broadband.”
