T-Mobile recently submitted a new filing to the FCC as part of their merger with Sprint. In that filing, we learned more about T-Mobile’s plans for their new TV service.

According to the filing, T-Mobile plans to use their new 5G network, which launches later this year, to launch a “wireless first” TV service in 4K. What exactly that means is still unknown, but T-Mobile says their merger with Sprint will allow them to sell to twice the customer base, helping them strike better deals.

For now, T-Mobile says they plan to expand their current Layer3 TV model into new markets. This is likely what we saw with recent job postings looking for TV techs in the Detroit area, for example.

The post did not give us many details about the new service they plan to launch with their new 5G service. The only new detail is that they plan to offer a 4K option. Currently only fuboTV offers a 4K live TV streaming service; however, several on-demand services also offer 4K options.

For now, it still looks like T-Mobile plans to launch their new live TV service by the end of 2018.
