Are you looking for a great TV that won’t break the bank? You may want to check out the new high-end Roku TV 6-Series from TCL. I first got a look at the new 6-Series Roku TV at CES in January. This week I was able to get my hands on the new TV in my own home to test it out.

What is the TCL 6-Series Roku TV?

The TCL 6-Series includes a 4K high dynamic range picture. The set will support Dolby Vision HDR and boasts an HDR Performance Package Pro to further elevate the experience. The HDR Performance Package Pro includes Contrast Control Zone Technology, a new iPQ Engine, and a versatile HDR Pro Gamma control. With 96 zones for the 55″ 6-Series TV and 120 zones for the 65″ model, the 6-Series includes high-speed 802.11ac wireless, Ethernet networking, and three HDMI®2.0a ports with HDCP 2.2 so users can enjoy optimal functionality on all inputs.

What about for gaming and sports?

One of the biggest tests for any TV is how it handles fast-paced sports and gaming. In our testing we found the 6-Series TCL TV in the sports setting to be the best Roku TV for gaming and sports fans we ever tested. The action was smooth and very responsive.

Is the 6-Series a good TV for antennas users?

Yes, the 2018 Roku TV 6-Series comes with a free channel guide and the ability to pause live TV you are watching on your antenna (if you add a USB stick). Roku TVs offer a great user experience for antenna owners.

What about the average TV and movie fan? Is this a good TV for them?

So, is this TV worth the price if all you want is a TV to watch movies and TV shows? Yes! The TCL 6-Series offers the best picture of any TV I have owned. Compared to our 2016 4K TCL Roku TV, the TCL 6-Series has a noticeably brighter picture making my 2016 model look dated.

If you want a TV that will offer the best possible picture but don’t want to spend over $2,000 the TCL 6-series is the TV for you.

Are there any downsides?

The only downside, if you can call it that, is the fact that the TV is a little thicker around the edges than the 2017 versions. While the TV may be a quarter of an inch thicker, the greatly improved picture quality more than makes up for that. Although it is thicker around the edges, the center of the TV where all the cables are plugged in seems to be about the same width as the 2017 model.

I know right now one of the big talking points with TVs is how thin they are around the edges. I would rather take better picture quality and sound in exchange for that quarter of an inch.

In Short

The 2018 TCL 6-Series Roku TV may not be the best TV on the market, but it may be the best TV at its price point. It is a solid TV that also includes a powerful built in Roku player that gives the TV access to a huge library of streaming services.

If you are looking for the best Roku TV available, this may be the TV you want.
