The Biggest Lie in TV Right Now Is That Cable TV Can Give You Everything You Want with a Single Bill

Depressed mature man holding paper and looking at it while sitting on the couch at homeThis week at the pay-TV show in Denver, we have seen a flood of cable executives push the idea that cable can give you everything you want in a single bill. The idea is that cord cutting means you have to get a long list of services or just pay for cable and get everything you want.

The truth is cable cannot give you everything you want. Many of the most popular shows right now including The Handmaid’s Tale, Stranger Things, and Pen15 are not available on cable TV.

Recently it was reported that over half of all cable TV subscribers also pay to a streaming service. Yet when you hear cable executives talk, they are pushing the idea that cord cutters will come back because they can just pay a single bill with Spectrum or Comcast.

This is the second year that the idea that cord cutters would come rushing back to cable was pushed. Last year, it was the idea that once they learn what they are missing cord cutters would come running back. This year, it is the idea that a single bill to access pay TV will be what brings cord cutters back.

So far there are no signs of cord cutters rushing back. What we are seeing is cord cutting growing faster than ever as 1.325 million American households cut the cord in the first three months of 2019. Yet cable executives still push the idea that cord cutting is a short-term issue that will go away soon.

Do you think a single bill will pull cord cutters back? Or do you think it is now impossible to get a single bill with Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon putting out must-see TV? Leave us a comment and let us know.
