    Please be aware that you can use Miracast now to mirror the content of your windows 8.1 laptop or PC to the FireTV. It was added in a recent update to the FireTV. I have used it. It can disconnect at times and may not be as smooth as I would like, but it is doable and probably will get better with time.       I thought it worked with Windows but when you got to the Fire TV list of supported devices only Android and Fire OS are officially supported. Since he has a Chromecast already that will still be the best way as it is officially supported and works well.

        Yes – they either did not remember to update the support pages after this update or they are still working on perfecting it before making it official. I’m hoping the latter, because it can use some improvement.
