The battle for the living room TV has never been hotter. As Americans move away from the set-top box offered by their cable company, there is a huge new market for streaming players.

Not only do companies like Apple, Google, Amazon, and Roku want you to buy their equipment, but they also want you locked into their user experience. Recently Roku reported that most of their revenue comes from ads and subscriptions not hardware sales.

So, who is winning this race? We already know that about 70 percent of cord cutters already own and use a Roku player or TV. What about the future? What devices are cord cutters planning to buy?

Recently Cord Cutters News surveyed over 2,000 of our readers asking what device they plan to buy next. Roku was the clear winner and dominated the responses.

According to our readers, most who plan to buy a new streaming player plan to buy a Roku. More than double the number of readers plan to get a Roku rather than a Fire TV. Using this study, Roku will have four times the sales compared to the Apple TV when looking at cord cutters.

Why the huge lead for Roku? That is harder to pin down. Cost is a big part of it. With Rokus starting at $30 and the Apple TV at $150 that is one consideration. While many users say the Roku is overly simplistic giving up the beauty of an Apple TV, others say the Roku is so easy to use that it helps push sales for buyers who want something that just easily works.

Whatever the reason, Roku is clearly dominating both device sales now and from the looks of it device sales going into the future.
