Three animated shorts, “Just a Thought,” Exchange Student,” and “Jing Hua” are coming to Disney Plus in Spring 2020.

These three new shorts are part of the Short Circuit program at Disney. The program was designed to give animators the freedom to pitch original ideas and take more risks wit their ideas. When the pitches are accepted, they get the support of the Studio and other artists to make the idea a reality.

These are the three shorts that we’ll see on the new streaming service next spring.

Just a Thought

Just a Thought is directed by Brian Menz (animator on “Wreck-It Ralph,” “Zootopia,” “Frozen”) and is based on the awkward pre-teen experience with animation inspiration from Sunday newspaper comics.

Exchange Student

Exchange student is directed by Natalie Nourigat (story artist on “Ralph Breaks the Internet”) whose past experience with drawing comics will likely inspire this short. Nourigat will take inspiration from watercolor for the design of her animations.

Jing Hua

Jing Hua (which translates to “Flower in the Mirror”) is directed by Jerry Huynh (a technical director on “Moana,” “Ralph Breaks the Internet”.) Huynh will use Chinese brushstroke design for his animated short.

These three animated shorts are just a small sample of the new content we’re looking forward to with the new Disney+ streaming service. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more about the shows and movies the network is planning.
