Netflix is the world’s largest streaming service with over 65 million subscribers worldwide. Netflix is also probably the most widely available streaming app on everything from DVD players to phones. But there are a few things Netflix needs to add…
Here is our short list of the three most needed additions to Netflix.
#1 Profile Passwords
Netflix profiles are a great way to separate content between different users in the same house. It also allows you to create limited profiles for your kids who may not be ready for a R rated movie yet.
Right now there is nothing stopping your kids from switching from their limited profile to one of the parent’s limitless profiles. Netflix needs to add a pin code on profiles as an option to help block kids’ access to unrestricted profiles. It would also help keep out that roommate who likes adding stuff to your watch list…
#2 Ability to Switch Streaming Quality Within Apps
Data caps show no signs of going away any time soon. To help fight this we wish Netflix would allow users to change the streaming quality right inside the apps.
When I watch a movie I want HD to get the most out of it, and if I am just streaming my kid’s Disney Junior cartoon HD is not needed. The ability to switch back and forth without going into my settings on their website would be a huge step in reducing the amount of GB we use.
#3 Written Reviews in Apps
Stars are helpful when deciding what to watch, but what I really want to know is what people say about the movie. A 3 out of 5 could be bad or good for my family, and a written review could help us decide what we want to watch. Does a documentary have 2 stars because of poor editing or do people just not like what it has to say? A written review is the best way to figure out the star rankings of some movies.
Netflix, please add written reviews into the different apps so users can make up their own minds about what they want to watch not what you think they want to watch.
Netflix is great, and hopefully they keep improving by giving users more features—not only features to find content but features that let them get the most of Netflix for their whole family.
