Yesterday at NAB Cord Cutters News met with TiVo to look at their new ATSC 3.0 prototype. At the show, TiVo demoed the ability to use a USB tuner with ATSC 3.0 to upgrade your current TiVo Bolt.

Ever since ATSC 3.0 next gen TV was announced there have been questions about what this means for current DVR owners. Will your DVR be able to get the new 4K signals, interactive features, and more? Now TiVo says, yes, they are working on ways to upgrade current TiVo Bolt DVRs to work with the new ATSC 3.0 features.

The goal for TiVo is to not only record ATSC 3.0 broadcasts but also let you take advantage of improved features like interactive news stories and sports broadcasts.

You can take a look at the new TiVo setup in today’s YouTube update:

For now, this new USB tuner for TiVo to upgrade is only an early beta. So, don’t look for this USB tuner to hit the market tomorrow. The good news is TiVo has something in the works so when ATSC 3.0 rolls out en masse they will be ready.
