TiVo Stream 4K and Remote

TiVo’s Stream 4k is selling faster than any of the company’s previous hardware releases. The little TV dongle was released in May at an introductory price that lasted long into the summer, which may play a part in why the hardware keeps flying off retail shelves (or more like virtual ones).

The device, named Best of CES by The Wall Street Journal, provides seamless integration with online video services, including Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, and many more. As the preferred source of subscription TV, the Sling TVapp will be readily available on the TiVo Stream 4K box and Sling content listings will be surfaced via universal search. It also comes with TiVo’s content network TiVo Plus which carries more than 70 free, ad-supported channels.

TiVo recently completed a merger with Xperi, who says the Stream 4k is part of the company’s Consumer Experience business segment which accounts for approximately 40% to 45% total combined company product revenue.

During this week’s earnings call, Xperi CEO Jon Kirshner reported the launch of the Stream 4k in May was just the beginning of a 3-part phase. The second phase of this “footprint expansion” will come with the Stream 4k embedded as a search and discovery app for Smart TVs, a feature that’s Kirshner says will launch at the end of next year or early 2022.

Phase three will put Stream as a comprehensive Smart TV platform that connects content from all sources and utilizing TiVos leverage on search monetization tools to “fully exploit the TiVo content experience.”

“This is one of the merger-related revenue synergies we are most excited about as we unite the TiVo Stream product with Xperi’s very strong OEM relationships and TV footprint,” Kirshner said.

“As this trend toward cord-cutting continues, our focus in this category is on upgrading our service offerings with OTT content additions and enhancing our industry-leading personal content discovery solutions that make it easy to find, watch and enjoy content across all content sources,” Kirshner said.
