Today at CES Vewd (formally Opera TV) Announced Their New Smart TV OS Called Vewd

Cheerful family having popcorn while watching television at homeAccording to Vewd, their new smart TV is the first smart TV OS that “truly leads with video, offering an immersive, dynamic and cinematic viewing experience directly from the homescreen.” A Vewd rep went on to say smart TVs with their new OS will not need to download apps.

“Vewd OS offers thousands of popular apps from the most important video-on-demand services to the most specific interest-based apps, and video begins playing immediately so consumers can spend less time searching and more time watching.”

“The launch of Vewd OS marks an important milestone for the industry. Consumers, manufacturers and subsequently content owners all benefit from a truly transformative TV experience that exceeds expectations and strikes the right balance between enterprise and entertainment,” said Vewd CEO Aneesh Rajaram in a statement sent to Cord Cutters News. “Vewd OS raises the bar by reducing fragmentation and allowing every player across the value chain to win.”

Vewd faces tough completion from Roku, Amazon, and Google because these three companies have slowly been consolidating the smart TV market between the three of them. Vewd did not list any partners who will be using their new TV OS or what streaming services they will have on their Vewd OS.
