Update: AT&T Internet Customers Who Have DIRECTV NOW Will Be Exempt from Data Caps (With One Catch)

Last month, Cord Cutters News broke the story that AT&T is giving unlimited data to AT&T Internet customers who also have DIRECTV NOW. Typically, unlimited home internet costs an extra $30 a month. (AT&T home internet customers are limited to 1 TB of data a month unless they pay an extra $30 a month.) Back in December, AT&T confirmed to Cord Cutters News the deal and supplied additional details but now it looks like there is one catch.

After getting so many emails from customers unable to get the unlimited home internet deal we wanted to post an update. After reaching out to AT&T here is what we know.

To get free unlimited home Internet from AT&T, you have to have an AT&T home Internet subscription and DIRECTV NOW subscription. Both the Internet and DIRECTV NOW services must also have the same home address. Yet there seems to be one other catch. Many of our readers are reporting that AT&T reps are saying if you have a DIRECTV NOW discounted plan, like the $15 off for being an AT&T Wireless customer already, you are not eligible to get the AT&T Unlimited home internet deal.

AT&T chat reps have a history of giving out incorrect information on issues like this. So, Cord Cutters News reached out to AT&T for clarification and AT&T has not replied to our emails. We do know many readers say they have not received their free unlimited data on AT&T internet even though they have both AT&T home internet and DIRECTV NOW with the same home address. So far everyone we talked to all had some type of DIRECTV NOW discount on their plans.

A few months ago DIRECTV NOW ended most discounts on DIRECTV NOW. No longer do you get a discount on the DIRECTV NOW Go Big plan and some of the discounts for being an AT&T Wireless customer have ended. Yet if you had the discount already you get to keep it. This seems to be the issue preventing some from getting the deal.

Now if you have a discounted DIRECTV NOW plan with AT&T home internet I wouldn’t rush out and drop that discount. There is no promise from AT&T that you will be able to get unlimited AT&T discount. Cord Cutters News will continue to reach out to AT&T for comment and update this post as we learn more.
