After almost a month of having the Apple TV on sale Walmart seems to have made it official and dropped the prices.
Originally the 32GB Apple TV was priced at $149 and the 64GB version was $199. (This is still the price on the Apple.com website; however, now many Walmart stores have dropped the regular price of the 32GB Apple TV to $129 and the 64GB Apple TV to $159 in stores. (The 32GB version costs slightly more on the Walmart.com website.)
This photo was taken yesterday at a local Walmart.
This photo was taken at the same Walmart on August 24th 2016.Walmart seems to be the only retailer to have dropped their prices, which raises the question is Walmart doing this on their own to help move Apple TVs? It is also possible that Walmart jumped the gun and dropped their prices before Apple had planned to announce a price adjustment.
Walmart has a history of jumping the gun on selling product. Recently they started selling the Mi Box, an Android TV streaming player, early. They also put out some of the new Roku boxes early. So both possibilities could likely be correct, but only time will tell.
It will be interesting to see if other stores will follow in Walmart’s steps. For now Walmart stores are the best way to get the Apple TV.
