Are you buying a Roku this Black Friday? There are some really great deals like a $49.99 Roku Ultra and a $29.99 Roku Stick+. If you are, be careful not to get scammed when setting it up.

Recently there has been a number of scams targeting Roku owners. The scammers attempt to convince you to pay them to set up them your Roku. Now, there are legitimate services that offer help for a fee.  However, The scam comes into place when they try to convince you that the only way to get your Roku set up properly is to pay

Here is how it works; when you search Google for the Roku phone support/Roku setup, you don’t get Roku’s number.  Instead, you get a third-party company number that promises to help you fix your issue if you are willing to pay a fee. It does not stop there, as they now will also send out random emails to trick you into calling them.

The problem became so bad Roku even created a page on their site to address the issue. Now, the issue is getting better and most of the popular search terms will put the real Roku contact info at the top.  However, you have to be careful because fake support sites are still out there and are quite convincing.

These third-party companies will help you do everything from register your Roku to fix your Roku – if you pay. Remember, you do not need to pay because Roku offers a 100% free customer service phone number.

How to set up your Roku for FREE:

If you need help setting up your Roku, all you need to do is follow the on-screen instructions. At some point, it will give you a 5-letter/number code that looks like “XD12G.” (That is just an example, every Roku has a different code.)

Go to https://my.roku.com/link and enter the code you see on your Roku. Do not Google Roku Activation. Just enter the link as shown above or click that link to open a new window.

From there, Roku will ask you to log in if you already have a Roku account or to create a free account by entering a username and password. That account will allow you to easily set up new Roku players by just logging in.

Now you are all set. Your Roku will automatically finish the set up after you finish setting up your Roku account.

Remember: There is no cost to set up a Roku after you buy it. Also, remember to be careful that the website you are on is the real website—not a fake one. Any website that is not Roku.com is not a Roku-owned website.
