Earlier this year, Sling TV offered me a free antenna installation at my house to test out their antenna installation service. Many wondered if we got special treatment skewing my review. So, we at Cord Cutters News decided to do our own test without Sling TV knowing. I had my mother-in-law set up the install at her house so there was no way to easily trace it back to Cord Cutters News.
To address a question I saw in the comment Sling TV has paid for advertising on our site but had no idea we would be reviewing their antenna service a second time. Using my mother-in-law’s house also helped make it harder for Sling TV to know this install would be used for this review. Sling TV in no way paid for this review or had any impact on this review in any way. Sling TV also did not know about this review until after we published our review here.
So, how did Sling TV’s antenna install work? Here is our full review:
On Thursday, we called 1-888-364-6055 to set up our installation and we were offered several options for the installation. We picked a Saturday afternoon installation. After we set up the installation, we received confirmation, and got a call the day before the install with the rough time to expect the installer. The day of the install, we received a text message to say they were on their way.
What Sling TV Did to Set Up the Antenna
Sling TV sent a DISH tech to the house during the two-hour window provided on the phone earlier in the day. Work took just under 1.5 hours, and they cleaned up after themselves.
We asked them to install the antenna on the roof, and the installer quickly connected it to the cable already running into the living room. The DISH techs used an app on their phone that showed the direction of the towers in the area so they could set up the antenna for the best results for ABC – the main channel we wanted.
Testing the Televes DigiNova Boss Outdoor Antenna
DISH’s tech installed the Televes DigiNova Boss antenna. I am happy to report after the first try, the Televes DigiNova Boss antenna picked up all the channels I wanted and many more than we expected. We went from picking up six channels with an indoor antenna to 31+ with an outdoor antenna. The Televes DigiNova Boss antenna sells for about $100 at several retailers.
Remember: Location affects reception, and your experience will vary.
Cost
The outdoor antenna installation cost $150 plus tax, but if you want a second line run to a second room it costs an extra $50 per additional room up to four rooms. We only paid for the single install in the living room.
Final Thoughts
I am happy to report that Sling TV installed the antenna without issues and the install at my in-laws’ was exactly the same as the install at my house in a completely different state. So, Sling TV and DISH did not give us any type of special treatment that we wouldn’t have gotten if we had just called and set up the installation on our own.
I did look around to see how the price compared to others and found Amazon also installs roof antennas in the area, but they charge $249.12 plus the cost of the antenna. I saved a little over $200 with the Sling TV installation and antenna.
