The Cord Cutters News team is stuck at home and, like most of the country, we’ve been spending more time than ever putting our streaming services to use. Today, we wanted to share some of our favorite movies, as a little streaming inspiration for anyone who has already worked through their entire Netflix watch list.

Here’s what we’re watching.

I’ve been an Audrey Hepburn fan since day one, long before we shared the same last name! I mean, as a girl, were you even a college freshman if you didn’t have a Breakfast at Tiffany’s poster in your dorm? Since I was supposed to be boarding a plane to Italy this weekend before life got turned upside down, I’ll be living vicariously through Audrey and her man Gregory Peck as they stylishly sample gelato and cruise the streets of Rome on a Vespa. Ciao!

As a child of the early 80s, I’m a fan to this day of all the movies I grew up with and I absolutely can’t choose just one unless they make me! Ghostbusters probably stands as my favorite because it was scary enough for a kid but had plenty of comedy and quotable lines as well. I’ll watch a film from the Back to the Future, Indiana Jones or Rocky series any day, and I love John Hughes films, namely Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, and Home Alone, which is regular Christmas viewing in my house. I feel like movies from this decade combined some of the biggest comedy stars of their era with stellar writing and of course, dozens of iconic musical scores from John Williams to make for some of the most memorable films ever.

There was a period not long after its home release where I watched 2009’s Moon every day for the better part of a week. Something about the story, the isolation, the believable depiction of a near-future all resonated with my sci-fi sensibilities. Plus, Sam Rockwell’s performance is incredible as the lonely, homesick Sam Bell. I’ve heard it’s seen a bit of a surge in popularity during the widespread stay-at-home measures and with its remote, closed-off setting, I can see the appeal. I should point out it features Kevin Spacey, whose star power has certainly diminished in recent years. (Though, if it helps, his voice-only role means he’s only heard, not seen.)

I guess it’s no coincidence that just when I’m feeling kind of closed in, I want to watch a movie about someone who wants to break free. I remember first seeing this classic with my dad one afternoon years ago as we were flipping through channels. I don’t think either of us moved until the credits rolled. Does freedom have anything to do with your physical location? What’s it like to hate where you are but feel terrified of leaving? Can you inspire others while being imprisoned with them? Themes like these went over my head the first time I watched this movie, but I knew it was special. I’m glad I revisited it over the years and I’m doing it again. These days, I need to hope along with Andy and Red!

Anyone who has tuned into the weekly live Q&As on YouTube knows that I’m a big superhero movie fan, so no one will be surprised that my pick is a Marvel movie or, rather, all of the Marvel movies. I’ve seen them all, but I’m rewatching them again, in order. (Thanks to Pocket-lint for listing the right way to watch them all in Marvel Universe chronological order!) I’m looking forward to the new Marvel shows coming out later this year and in 2021, but this list will keep me entertained in the meantime.
