Xbox Is Ending Support For Live OTA Streaming

Sad news for cord cutters who use their Xbox to stream over the air TV (OTA) to Android or iOS. Last week Microsoft started contacting Xbox owners who used this feature to notify them that they will soon lose access to live streaming from their antenna to other devices using their Xbox. In the statement Microsoft said:

You may have streamed TV content using a USB TV tuner from your Xbox console to the Xbox app. In 30 days, the Xbox app on iOS and Android will no longer support this functionality. You will still be able to watch TV content on your Xbox One console and via streaming to the Xbox app on Windows 10.

Previously Xbox owners could use a USB tuner to stream their antenna to other devices on the same network. From the looks of it, very few Xbox owners used the feature.

Earlier this year Microsoft announced they had ended plans to launch a DVR for the Xbox. From the looks of it, Microsoft has decided to walk away from their plans to further integrate OTA into the Xbox line of products. For now, they seem happy to focus on gaming and streaming rather than OTA.
