YouTube TV Fixes Known Issues With Roku Players & The Nvidia Shield

Did you notice stuttering when streaming YouTube TV with Roku? Good news! Google says they have fixed this issue with Roku players by rolling out an update at the end of May 2019. A fix for YouTube TV on Nvidia Shield also started to roll out with the last Android TV update that should be rolling out soon.

Here is YouTube TV’s full list of known issues according to Google as posted on Reddit by a Google employee:

UPDATED 2019/6/18

NVIDIA SHIELD

  • Playback of live/DVR sometimes immediately fails. We’re currently investigating this, no root cause identified yet.
    • Status: Tentative fix is in the YTV Android TV 1.07 build which should be starting phased release soon.

Roku

  • Rise in playback errors on Streaming Sticks (3800,3800X).
    • Status: Roku sent out a firmware fix end of May which has mitigated this issue.

Sony Android TV

  • Playback performance regressions (stuttering/dropped frames) experienced after the Oreo update.
    • Status: Tentative fix is in the YTV Android TV 1.07 build which should be starting phased release soon.

Android Tablets (Samsung Tab S4 & S5)

  • Devices locked to portait orientation instead of rotating to landscape
    • Status: Fixed in YTV Android build 3.24 in phased release now.
