Woman watching TVToday Sensor Tower released the most popular live TV streaming service and according to this report YouTube TV, fuboTV, and Sling TV were the most downloaded live TV streaming service in September 2019.

Here are the download numbers according to Sensor Tower’s tracking:

iOS App Downloads /September 2019
1. YouTube TV 400K
2. fuboTV 200K and Sling TV 200K
3. AT&T TV 80K
4. Philo 60K
5. PlayStation Vue 54K
Android App Downloads /September 2019
1. YouTube TV 300K
2. fuboTV 200K
3. Sling TV 100K
4. AT&T TV 50K
5. Philo 40K
6. PlayStation Vue 30K
*Note: Hulu would be number one on this list, but we can not be sure who is downloading Hulu for on-demand and who is downloading it for its live TV streaming service.
What is most interesting in these numbers is fuboTV jumping up to be the second most downloaded live TV streaming services in September 2019. 200K new downloads mean it is fighting right alongside services that have considerably more subscribers. This growth likely means it has more new subscribers than services like AT&T TV NOW and PlayStation Vue.
These numbers lineup nicely with Apptopia’s report from earlier this week. According to Apptopia, live TV streaming service apps were downloaded over 23.2 million times in the 3rd quarter of 2019. That is a jump from just 13.1 million in the 3rd quarter of 2017. Hulu dominated these downloads, with about 6 million downloads followed by Pluto TV in second place. From there, YouTube TV, Sling TV, fuboTV, AT&T Watch TV, Philo, and PlayStation Vue in that order.

Both of these lists lineup well with Roku’s list of most popular live TV streaming services that puts Playstation Vue in 6th place. According to Roku, here are the most popular live TV streaming services:

  1. Hulu
  2. Sling TV
  3. YouTube TV
  4. AT&T TV (Including AT&T TV NOW)
  5. Philo
  6. PlayStation Vue
  7. fuboTV

With all of this data, it seems that we are getting a clear idea about the current race for live TV streaming services. Clearly, Hulu, Sling TV, and YouTube TV are starting to dominate at the top with fuboTV seeing strong growth. The question now is will AT&T TV NOW turn around its decline and will fuboTV continue to see this strong growth to help it jump over other services when looking at subscribers.

So what do you think of this list? Does it surprise you that fuboTV would be so high? Leave us a comment and let us know what you think of these numbers.
